Combines cracked oil pan

I made my living for years building and repairing engines. I have welded a pile of them too. weld one only if a replacement is very expensive or hard to find. You cant afford to have a welded pan crack during harvest, Or worse yet have it start leaking and run the motor low on oil. That makes the replacement pan cost seem cheap

What, in your opinion, caused the crackIJ Was it over torquing or uneven torquing during overhaulIJ Are there any pans available in salvage yardsIJ

i have had two pans crack on gleaners one on a big engine l and another on N6 according to my dealer in north idaho the have seen several over the years, they think cause of the vebration out of the output shaft. never a problem on the tractors. I brazed both of mine, drill out the cracks with a small drill bit and go for it, total cost of repair just basically some rod and a pan gasket which cost me 7.50 for the N6 we did this fall.

Yep....my R5 did the same darn thing last fall. The crack was far too long and was getting longer. I e-mailed my frustration to Agco's ever friendly 'we forget about a-c unless its super profitable because we stock all parts in one of the most expensive suburbs of Chicago' department. They were not much help. Combine yard in Sikeston, MO has several.
