Here in south central Nebraska ground temp is 39 degrees. Wheat has greened up but no growth. We have had around three inches of rain the last two weeks and calling for snow and rain the next two days.
Send it our way. Here in NW ND, seeding into dry soil. Every storm that they forecast for us goes south and east. Got .10 last night. Just enough to settle the dust. Grass hasn't started to green up yet, creeks are dry. We are 1 inch below normal for precip and 1 foot below normal for snow this year. Sorry to sound so cheerful, but 3 out of 4 years of below average crops is no way to start farming career.
very little corn planted in Tn - a little in south west part of state - not up. We are WET after having the driest year on record , planting 15 days late - more rain - severe storms on the way . Could get serious quick. Soft red winter wheat looking good - lots of it -freeze warning this weekend - shades of last years start.
East central MO. WET, WET, WET. Nothing has been done. Water everywhere. You can see little ditches down all the knife tracks where NH3 was fall applied. 2.5" more rain this morning. All the creeks are out of their banks. Supposed to get 2-4" more tonight with predictions of high winds and hail. Rain and snow mix predicted for Fri night and Sat.
topsoil moisture very high but still in drought from last year in eastern N.C. Corn normally planted with some up by now. nothing planted here;some planted south and east. freeze warnings up for early next week. wheat looks good, starting to head out. possible repeat of last spring's killing freezeIJ!!!
Here in NW KS it has been very dry. The wheat did green up and grow some but almost no profile moisture under it. The fertilizer has all been put on for spring crops. Guys with irrigation are pre-watering trying to build some profile. Corn will start to be planted in the next couple of weeks which is normal. We did receive a good inch of rain the last couple of days which will help the wheat. There are a lot of wheat fields that are patchy and never have had a good stand. Kurt
Here in southwest Nebraska, we finally had an 1.25" of rain with a little snow late last week. We were getting very dry on top. The wheat is about to joint but was just not growing much. This moisture was PERFECT. Wheat looks good. We got a good stand last fall and just enough moisture through the winter to keep it going. Corn planting could start here next weekend around the 20th of April. About normal. It is supposed to be in the 60's and 70's all this week. Up until now we have been below normal for tempratures and way too cold to think about planting.
Just to throw a little perspective in (grin) Average of 259mm per year for the last 7 years! and 279mm from April 07 to April 08 so far! we have had a crop in that last twelve months off that! 31 mm of rain since Jan 08 and were are about a month from planting wheat! Very,Very Dry here! Rolf
