Combines crops in the south

In South Central Kansas we have some good wheat but there is also alot of late planted wheat that is poor. I scouted some today that looked good from the road, but it disappointed me when I got on top of it. I have traveled through the state and I would say 1_3 of the wheat I have seen is poor, 1_3 has potential if things happen right, and the other 1_3 looks pretty good. looks like average at best.

Hello, so your getting anxious too. I'm from the central part of the state and the snow is really disapearing here. What kind of wheat do you like to seedIJ I am having trouble deciding which variety to seed this year. We had alot of Russ and some Gunner seeded last year. The Russ, I thought, was good yeilding wheat but the quality was kinda poor towards the end of last harvest and I was able to find some sprouts on some of the later harvested stuff. I think the Russ would be excellant wheat if we could just get some decent harvest condition for once. I had some Gunner too and that seemed like a higher quality wheat. The protein was probably one full point higher and the test weight was way better. My main mistake with the Gunner was I seeded it last and it was a week behind in maturity compared to the Russ. The Gunner was probably 5 to 10 bushels an acre less. Just curious!

Its about the same in northwest Oklahoma. Some of the late stuff is very poor and it is doubtful if it will be worth harvesting. Other fields that were planted late are looking halfway decent but if it rains hard and starts blowing it could easily be gone. The stuff that was dusted in looks pretty good.
