I purchased a 2188 with 2,500 sep. hours and had my dealership install the slowdown kit and the heartland kit. My machine had all the signs of the shoe contact areas. My dealership strongly recommends it to everyone. Since then I only have put about 80 hours on the machine. There seems to be lot of posts on here with people talking about the contact issues. I cant say for sure if it is a cure since this is my first red rotor!

I really don't think that the cleaning system doesn't hit anything from the factory. This problem occurs over time from the bin load. I have an uncle that has a 1440 and has experienced the same stress breakage. My first experience with all of this is with a 1460 in the mid 80's when all of a sudden one year I could not zero the concave and visiting with a well known international tech he said it was because of the age that my combine had sagged in the middle. Makes sense to me looking at the main frame that too much of the sheet metal has to be load supporting and can't had it. My two cents.

I've yet to hear anyone say anything negative about this kit. If I was having shoe problems I would give it a try. Have you tried to determine if your shoe is hittingIJ

Hard to tell Farm Kid. As discussed a couple of weeks ago the auger bed trough dropped down therfore shoe was hitting it. My guess it was hitting it before this happened.

This shoe problem is tough one. We've never had an issue with a shoe, other than replacing bushings every few years and we finally updated the 1680 to the new cast rails when one cracked. It really seems like you either have problems, or you don't. Smells like a setup _ fixture problem at the factory.

Converted Red where are you locatedIJ Maybe I have a kit in your area. Your problems are very common. Do not give up on your combine these machines are the best out there, in my opinion. There are lots of contact points inside these combines that need to be removed for proper operation. I'm knocking 3 times on wood, but I have a 1989 1660 with the Cummins and I check these bushings all the time and there is no play what-so-ever. Our machine has 2750 hours on it (engine hours) and we have never replaced these since owning it (about 8 years ago with 1800 hours on it). I think they went to heavy duty system on this machine in preperation for the longer sieves which ours does not have although it does have the cast iron arms. Is there something I'm missing or is this not a problem on these seriesIJ

You might be on borrowed time with the bushingsIJ The rubber degrades over time due to exposure to oxygen and sunlight. I would consider replacing them rather than taking a chance. Do they look crackedIJ The cast iron rails are X shaped and bolt to the side of the machine. They came out a few years ago on the 2388, but retrofit to the other 80 series machines. I suspect the whole mechanism is better suited to the weight of the 60 series shoe and the 80 series has it overloaded, resulting in lots of issues.
