Combines Cummins Head stud leaking coolant

Pengs, It sounds like you have a head gasket issue. The head bolts are in blind holes with no coolant around them. Is it coming from the RH front cornerIJ Head gasket has had several updates to it from Cummins. I know, not the best news you want to hear. Hyper Harvest II

Pengs, Just get your head gasket set from Case-IH and you should be fine. That tractor should be new enough for torque_angle plus sequence when tightening head bolts.This was explained earlier on a Cummins head gasket post.Not too bad of a job to do. Make sure you have cylinder head resurfaced.We replace stainless steel bolts in exhaust manifold with regular bolts as they are easier to get out if they break off.Stainless bolts will also break and can be a bear somtimes to get removed as they are harder to drill. Thanks again Hyper Grade5 or G8 manifold bolts. Seems to be a bit common on these engines in tractors but Case dealer here says no trouble in headers _combines. Hmmmmm thanks pengs5

G'Day Gary We have had the 8.3 Cummings head leak as well a few years ago! got a free lance guy from Swanhill to do the head job on it! I'm sure he did something to our engine that made it it very reliable and torquey! it just hangs on so well, and runs very smooth! We got the head machined like hyper is talking about, and valves done as well (new stem seals and valve and port grind) We have never had a problem (touch wood) with is so far! just had the water pump done as I found it the evening after we finished harvest while I was in clean down mode! alternator has also been re-bearinged due to water in and around it! Its not a to bad of job! but like anything we do on theses machines the first time to rip into them with a gas axe and cut of wheel, can make wonder if its the right thing to do! Rolf

Yeah right on Rolf Hey um i've heard of some guys in USA hotrodding these engines in trucks _pickups what about tractors headers. Do they balance and blueprint clean up stuff etc. What about old mate in Swanhill. Friend had someone tweak injector pumps on both 2388s to run a bit better or it had to be done because of poor performance cant remember. As Nd dan or tbran says these engines need to perform. More interested in reliable do the hard yards free up type of mods myself than hotrodding. Still thinking about 250hp 6T 830 into the N5 or a Cat. Is it true Detroit series 60's have low oil pressure at idle IJ Pengs5

Make sure you get the latest head gasket from Cummins.There are"o"rings around coolant ports.Use new head bolts and torque _degree to latest specs.We had one with a broken head bolt this summer.It was an old break.lifted bolt head out from around n3 injector with pliers.
