I have a 1680 1992 with the cummins, I had oil dust collecting in that area and it turned out to be the gasket between the timing cover plate and the enine block, we pulled the front tin cover and found the bolts holding the gear cover to the block were loose, removed them, put on lock tite and replaced, there is holes in the gears to get at the bolts so not to much labour, two years later now and still holding. This could be your trouble, I cleaned the area well and watched for leak to start, it has also happened to some tractors in the same area. Scouter Ed
