The raised feathering sheets are THE answer in short soybeans if you don't like the idea of spending $9000 for a Crary Air Reel. The raised feathering sheets attach directly to the guards, using existing hardware. They form a triangular cross section, effectively filling in the dead spot between the cutterbar and the conveyor auger, allowing the reel to easily sweep short beans into the conveyor. Work great and a must have for short soybeans.

They come in approximately 5' sections and after installing them the first time which requires mounting some clips on the guard bolts, it is just a matter of pulling rods out to get the sheets off. Real simple.

I have a 500 Flex with the Johnson guard strip on now. My question is, can i add the raised sheets and leave the Johnson onIJ I think I would have better rock protection if i still leave the Johnson on tooIJ Anyone with experience on thisIJ Thanks for the help.

best I can tell, yes. It never hurts to have a big Johnson when in the field.....

I've been reeding the posts about the raised feathering sheet. I've never heard of them before, but they sound like something we need here in droughty KS. Who makes them, who sells them and what do the cost for a 25' or 30' headerIJ Thanks. K.A.

Where I found the raised feathering sheets was in the field installed section of the Gleaner Header ordering book. They are listed under current 800 series books. They should work on the 500 and 800 series headers. As for price, I believe the prices were a little higher than I expected, but if it improves feeding like they say it would be worth the price.

we have 30'800 series that we put the raised feather sheets on. when the feeder house plugs and you reverse it the crop would get between the raised and the "old" feather sheets causing the "new" to raise up,so if you lower the head to the ground this wont happen,says our dealer.not true!!however it does help but does not prevent it.a big object ,like a rock,will damage the new sheets.so what we did was cut off the old sheets, leaving enough sheet,in the back, for the new sheets to rest on ,thus preventing any debree from getting inbetween the sheets....it work well for us.the new sheets really helped in short beans andalso helped beans from bunching up on the head when the stems are a little tough{early morning or late night}.

price is the main difference i went away from instaling them on my header. I found that i could purchase and instal a 1020 flex head cheaper than i could up grade my 500 series header i now have a header that will cut faster than my combine will take it
