Combines curved spreader bats

Please respond as I'm interested too. I hate to spend $126.00 if they don't spread better. I currently have the chaff spreader with 3 tall plastic straight bats. They spread about 20 feet now, but I'd like to go 24 feet.

I put them on a 2388 this harvest and like them alot. I just have a regular straw spreader that has been lowered 5 inchs and the high speed pulley installed. When the straw was dry they spread well but left a row down the middle between the spinners. I would suggest using them with the big spinners. In tough straw they spread 26-28ft. I liked them well enough I also bought a set for our 1480 with 24ft header. Running the slow pulley they spread it the full 24ft, a bit to far if the wind is blowing as it gets on the uncut wheat.

Are you talking about the curved metal blades that mount on the spinnerIJ We put them on our combine, I really like them for spreading beans straw. One big note.....they are taller than the original blades so you have to move the pan that drops the straw onto the spinners up so there is clearance for the taller blades to turn.

I had the 3 tall plastic bats on my 2188 and could only spread about 25'. With the new curved pipe bats I can spread over 30', they work great. I think the price is out of line, I heard that 4" PVC or ABS pipe (maybe light steel) could be cut in half to do the same thing for a lot less money. My brother is trying to get this done on his machine and I will let you know if it works. Rod

I used the chopper deflector fins off of a JD combine, 8820 I think. I used the middle fins as they are the smallest and least aggresive. I put three on each side mounted on the top with the direction of throw correct for each side. I would think they could be reversed to be less aggresive to use them with a smaller head. I don't run any corn but I would think they would send a corn cob for a pretty good ride. Might want to go back the the rubber bats for corn. I also folded part of the rubber curtain back on its self. The spreaders and must be timed because they just clear the other spinner by a half and inch or so. They did a great job on my 1680, spread full 30ft if no side wind. If you have a salvage yard around, it makes a pretty cheap fix for the factory spreaders. A little red paint makes them look like they belong on the machine. JD no longer has the parts availible but I think Shoup has them in their catalog.

My brother was able to use 4" exhaust pipe 2'4" long for each spreader and get it cut by a plasma cutter for less than $30 Cdn. Make sure you cut pipe to match rotation of spreader. Do not cut all six pieces the same. Rod
