Combines custom combining

In East Central Indiana, custom runs $18 an acre on corn and soybeans if all you are doing is dumping in a trailer provided by someone else. My neighbor Ernie gets $22 an acre from one farmer because he usually has to provide hoppers, tractors and a field augur if a trailer isn't on site. Also that particular farm is in two locations with 5 small fields totalling only 100 acres. We have to travel 5 miles to reach the furthest field, which is what we did last Saturday running beans for the gentleman.

$20 in E. Iowa. My type of schedule is same time every day to each farmer unless he calls or it rains. Find someone who has a good history in the neighborhood- such as reliable, doesn't combine at 8-10mph, and cares about puting the crop in the bin and not on the ground.

we have been combining for some of the same people for over 30 years I do a good job and people like that and some people charge 30 per acre I think 26 is ok maybe i should charge more with the prices of buying a new combine and heads and parts these days I think 26 per acre is a fair price nobody complains about it around here.

How do custom cutters deal with long corn lines at the elevator. some times we have to be in line 4 hrs for one truck when the corn runs good.

I understand your thinking. I wish I could charge more than $20 combining and $10 planting nt w_liq. In my area, the big boys set the rates and if you want business you have to go along. Take a neighbor for example; He charges $23 plus fuel and was complaining last year that he couldn't afford to trade for a new JD every other year anymore because a couple of his customers had retired and he was unable to find any new business. I choose to run a good machine that is paid up instead.
