I don't know how the newer heads work but on our 9322 the sickle angle is adjustable and by changing the angle it also changes the height of the skid plates. The manual says the plates are supposed to be pararell to the ground when the head is six inches off the ground. However by changing the angle it can be made to cut lower, but it will not float over rocks near as well as having it level or even tilted up a little. Just a thought, might want to check it.
