Combines cylinder compared to rotor

I don't think these machines cost any more to maintain than the older ones if you are cutting the same acres, you will find out (like us) how much more these machines will do. Then pretty soon you are expanding the operation, taking on some extra cutting. We use to cut 500-600 acres with an l2. Now we harvest 1800 acres of wheat and usually 200,000 bushel of corn and 50,000 bushels of beans. Our maintain cost have gone way up, but its just because we use our R72 a lot. Kurt

Had an M-3 before I got a R-62,the rotary is actually cheaper to maintain cause it runs less hours, went from 4 to 8 row,the intial start up cost is considerably higher though.

I once had a pair of 81 F2 combines and they were very reliable machines but they were also very slow by todays standards and the only advantage I can see to them is that they are lighter and will go through more mud than a R62. A properly set up R62 in high yielding crops will cut twice as much as a pair of F2 combines, I know that is hard to believe but I have done that very thing many times. The anual maintence cost will be more on the R62 compared to the F2 but the per bushel cost will be less!
