Are you running the cylinder fast enoughIJ How in the world can you run a 30 head on an lIJ A 15 footer was enough for mine in good beans. Tom in MN

If you are running two concave bars, one on front door and one on front of back door, simply add a concave filler strip and two if necessary. Bet this will cure problem. Second thought is to open the stone door and measure the clearance from side to side. The back door channel should be 1_8" away from cyl bars if your gauges are correct-which is unusual.....make sure it is level.

we run 2 St Johns cylinders but only do wheat and milo. it's the best thing we've done to our machines. there's a post below where they're talking about header width with an email adress at white84@hotmail.com that talks about beans. he seems to be pretty happy too. or you can email Terry at sjwelding@stjohnks.net

We installed Trimpe bars in the early 80s. At that time are goal was to handle giant rag better. We were told that the bars would increase our capacity, but never dreamed that they would do what they have done. We originaly ran an 18' series 2 head, equiped with White Qwick Cut, full out in 2nd gear. I spent more time repairing that head than I care to remember. In 94 the local Case IH dealer started pushing the Tracker option on wider heads, after applying a tape measure to the machines I decided to give it a go. We now run 30' full out in 1st gear. I now spend very little time on the head. The Tracker option makes the wide head work like a dream in all kind of conditions, considering the narrow tire spacing. At 3mph the head has all the time it needs to work over rocks, ground hog ($nn$%and**%nnn)holes. The head does a good job complementing what I believe to be one of AllIS CHAlMERS_GlEANER'S finest machines.

I would love to see the IH 30' header on your l. Can you send me a picture (digital would be fine) of the machine with this header and summary of what modifications you had to do to make it work. I have a l3 with the St Johns cylinder and concave. I over load the header in soybeans and wheat before I overload the machine. I currently use the 22' rigid header and 6 row JD (Bush adapter) all crop header. Both headers over load above 4.5 + mph. I would like to add a 30' header to this machine. That way I could load the machine and run a slower ground speed. The St Johns cylinder and concave increased by capacity (from stock setup) at least 25% in all crops. No problem in green stem beans. I have never choked the cylinder since I added the St. Johns. Thanks Marshall Joyce

We are thinking about getting a St.John setup. How long have you had yours and did you have wide spaced bars before. As soon as we get back to the field we will send you some digital pictures.

Marshall and grain getter -- thanks for the good words on your posts. Yes, we have been changing over rotors for IH, NH, Massey (actually have done more axial flow models than Gleaners),N_R Gleaners and conventional JD -- this really soups up an old 8820 -- as well as l and M models. We haven't done a JD STS (not a rotor according to JD)as yet, but intend to when time permits. We acquired a slightly damaged STS (not a rotor) a while back (apparently angered the JD area rep in the process) and intend to fool around with it this winter. Website is www.stjohnwelding.com or you can email for info. Terry Welch
