I would definately suggest looking at the little clear belt that runs the tach. This seems to be a very regular occurance when that belt breaks. It looks kind of like a rubber band and runs on a small white pulley. If you have more questions feel free to email me. brent

thanks Brent when it first happened I looked at the belt and the belt was still in place. However since that time the belt has come off.I also noticed the tach does not fit as closely as it did around the instrument opening as it did beofre it broke. So I am thinking something is loose on the mouting bracket or something locked up in the cable and caused it to torque. What is your email address-

My 8820II has the same tack. I had to blow some dirt buildup out of the front plastic pulley. The dirt made the pulley a little hard to turn and the rubber belt would slip. If I remember correctly the belt also has a twist in it.HOPE this may be of some help. Rusty.

You are right there the belt is twisted i forgot to mention. Great Idea to keep it blown out with compressed air so the little guy wont slip. Brent

I have a 1974 jd 4400, the cylinder tach was very inaccurate. looked into it and the o-ring belt was slipping on the pulley that goes up to the tach. Found a grease fitting on a support for the shaft. Has worked great ever since I greased that bearing.
