Combines cylnder speed for 9600 in wheat

We run between 720 - 850 harvesting dryland wheat here in North Central Texas. Any higher and we begin to crack grain. Goes without saying: All depends on circumstances, different varieties, and what shape your cylinder bars and concaves are in. Will say I've never been able to run as low as 600, nor haven't found it necessary to go to 980.

Depending on what crop conditions like moisture or how late in the season and header size and how good the grain is, I usually start near 850 and up. Concave and rasp bar wear is very important. with fresh threshing components and good field conditions, high ground speeds in a high yielding crop I run cylinder speed close to 1000 and start opening concave till the straw out the back looks complete and there are no cracked kernels. hopfully you dont have a chopper. I prefer a spreader. The straw condition out the back is the best way to diagnose all conditions. I fiddle with settings on my 9600 all day as the temperature climbs. Higher ground speeds means you must get rid of the crop mat faster.
