Freind of mine had same problem in hills. He unhooked them. Not sure if he removed end tines, or took of chainIJIJIJIJ Its been a long time, but I recall he said it worked in the hills after that.

I have an R5 and have completely removed the cage sweeps and have no problems with it. A neighbour removed his from an R6 before me and both of us have no intentions of ever putting it back.

Well it always seems like the day after I ask a question, I find the actual answer. Today I continued to have cage sweep problems, but we discovered that two collars that keep the bevel gears lined up were loose, and one of the roll pins was sheared. So basically the sweep was working when there was hardly any material flow, but give it a bit of a load and it plugged. If we contined to have problems after rebuilding the system, I'll disconnect the link to the chain, that way the tattletale will still thing everythings okay even though the sweep is turned off.

My friends said a cage sweep is more of a hindrance than help so I removed my cage sweep before I ran the R60 the first year. The only cage plugging I have had is wet beans wrapping around the frame member between the thresher and separator sections. I understand the cage sweep wouldnt have helped, as it doesnt reach far enough down the side of the cage to do any good in this area. Tom Russell

Another option available now from loewen which allows you to get rid of the cage sweep, is the P1 seperator cage they build which is a copy of the P3 style, which doesn't use a sweep. This includes the larger 1 x 1 1_4 holes, and only one door, so there are next to no obstructions to hold straw anymore.

I run wheat, corn and soybeans. I do clean the top of the cage at the end of every crop as kernels and a little straw collect at the top of the cage but that is all I do. I was told the only thing the cage sweep was good for was giving trouble.

We have removed most of them around here also. When we remove the cage sweep we also remove all the solid covers fastened to cage. You should check for pluging daily and be double sure you have doors into engine compartment latched well. If you have pluging above left concave adjusting eyebolt like Tom had you could build a panel to go straight up from there to prevent material from hanging and building. Have panel follow curve of cage to the top of cage. If material would still want to hang on bolt for left rear of concave you could add a little panel to hang over the bolt. A little panel could be hung over right rear concave bolt also if pluging would ever start there. Basically if you are pluging somewhere you need to locate what is hanging up the straw eliminate it. Sometimes a bolt that is to long will cause straw to hang up on it or a square corner could be rounded off if straw is hanging there. In some crops the material will lay on top of cage and in them crops you may want to relocate the crop loss monitor pad so it isn't blocked by the straw sitting on top of cage. Good luck.
