My dealer told me a new line (8x20 series) of row-crops were to be introduced, featuring such options and features as a CVT tranny (ala Fendt) and cab and front end suspension. Also, an 8520 with an estimated 260 PTO Hp.
Deere has supposedly had this new line going for a while. And the CVT trans that Deere "may" be coming out with(like the Fendt)-was developed and ready to go in the 70s. They never released it then because they didn't think the market was ready for it. It wouldn't have been accepted then.
70's, not a chance, the technology wasn't even close to "quasi" perfection by then, trust me. I bet Deere isn't even able to achieve 85% efficiency with their "ZF" tranny for their 6, 7, 8000 series models.
