Combines demos vs R72

Not often that anybody can get a line up like you had to do few comparisons. Now if only NDDan had been around with the Bison rotor in the R72, that might have made things real interesting! Thanks for the info, gleanermanitoba. Much appreciated.

Ya the CR's in wheat put the straw everywhere its not supposed to in the concaves. That 970 wasn't set up right in my opinion. I run a 940 at work with a 25ft head cutting 6" off the ground in 105-125bu wheat running 2.3mph with 52-60% engine load. Went up to 3mph and only 60% engine load so a 30ft would have got me 70%. Both are good combines but that 970 should have been the only real test for your R72. I'd buy an R72 before I buy a CR. Take care, Nathan

Gleanermanitoba, What year or HP rating is your 72 and do you know what the others are rated atIJ R.O.M., I'd like to have been there with tilted floors (reports are this alone can add over 20% more capacity). Updated report yesterday from the guy in 120bu wheat with his Bisoned 75. You likely read the post from a few days ago. He's now getting used to the crop loss monitoring system and knows what he needs to adjust for the vastly different conditions. Monitor is set about as sensative as you can get with the extremely little loss he is getting. Now traveling 5MPH consistantly. I didn't do the math but elevator said he is hauling in 1000bu every 22 minutes. He was the lone combine in that field at that time. I wish he had a 36' head to see if that would slow him down 20%. Anyway we're having fun with lots of great hyperizing reports pouring in. Keep on Gleanering!!

How does tilting down floors increase capacity if you are all ready against the horsepowerIJ I have also heard that not all Bison rotors in Gleaners are performing so great in different areas. DO you know how the CDF's match up against the BisonIJ

Our 72 is at stock hp so 330 and is an 02 model, the 570 Cat was 350 hp, 8010 was set to run at 440 all the time , and the 970 was 400 with a bulge I think. As far as getting all the demos its amazing what happens when you farm along a main highway and get a demo machine sitting there all of a sudden everyone wants to put one in your yard. The Cr is coming back out tommorow so we will se how it goes then.

There are two reasons why tilting floors gain you capacity. One being the feeder does not consume as much HP when you get rid of the bottle necks. This saved HP can then be used elsewhere. Two is the flow is smooth and even. You likely know how much better a rotary can go if feed properly. As far as Bisons go I do know that there may be some that are not up to par in some conditions. I did not sell any of these. These were sold direct out of machine shop that manufactured them which was not supposed to happen per the owner of patent. I did deliver a couple early protos for testing and found out they were not ready for me to promote or sell. It was not a problem with design as much as the finished dimensions and consistancy of the finished product. This turned me off to any further developing of the rotor. Now don't get me wrong for even the early ones that had a couple flaws would work great in a lot of conditions especially when compared to old stock rotors with a bunch of reverse bars ect. Now for this year the patent holder built me some with more exact dimensions. I sent out one to a guy with a pair of 65s. He run sweeps in one and Bison in the other. He does a ton of bailing. He found the Bison would grind the straw and pull down when extremely dry. After a little head scratching we discovered problem and took care of it. Problem was somewhat associated with the way we transitioned helicals but we corrected an attachment on rotor. We did the same thing with a second Bison which is running in the 75 mentioned above. We then sent one out to the guy that has been running proto Bisons from the get go and he quickly modified one of the old originals to match that one. We also run one in some extremely tough grass and they bought it. So long and short of it is I do know what is wrong with some of the earlier built Bisons. I have not been able to make a good comparison of CDF to Bison or sweep rotor as of yet. We only have the one CDF running so it is hard to say when well get to compare. We'll likely run into someone that did a good comparison yet this fall.
