Skip, Sorry to hear about your misfortune.The Denison hydro was used in Gleaners from 1981 in the N7 up until 1987 when the Sunstrand hydro was phased into the system.Your 1984 N5 should have a Denison Mark X in it.The Denison Mark IX was used in 1981 N6and7's(There was a Mark I used in early N7's)In 1984 all N's had the Mark X hydro and then in 1985 they went to a Mark XA,and finally in 1986 the Mark XB was used. Hopefully you will be able to find one in a yard with your age of combine or newer.The Denison hydro was a very reliable unit only very expensive if you had to open one up. If you get in a real pinch I do have a Mark XB out of a R5 that has been completely gone through after 1200 hours use.(Combine itself went through a fire but wanted to make sure hydro was fresh and ready.$5000) Good luck, Hyper Harvest II

We have an 85 l3 that has the Denison. We had one go out 6 years ago and found one in a salvage yard in Iowa. We kept our old one because they seem hard to find. I was wondering who fixes these hydrosIJ Everyone we called did not know how to work on them.

Planter, You can also check with Hydro Service Inc. in Roland,IA. (515-388-4096).They work on all brands of hydro units,hyd. moters and hyd. pumps.Ask for larry or Dan. Just remember that the Denison unit can be expensive to rebuild so get some cost estimates first. Hyper Harvest II

We do our own. We don't find them any harder to work on than the Dyna Power or Sundstrand. We get some parts and have parts reworked at Hydro Services in Tulsa, Ok. Good time to do in the off season to save $. There are enough good ones in salvage these days so I don't see to much rebuilding going on anymore. Never was much problem with the Denison. Ussually just a little junk in orfice from bad oring or tie bolt holding rotating groups together backed off. Be sure to keep fresh filters in these thing for oil will bypass filter when it is cold or plugged. New machines with spin on will likely cause some loss in performance beings they bypass oil to return circuit if it is getting dirty. Still better keep filters changed at recommended intervals.
