I don't know much about duetz engines, have seen alot of diesels fail due to bad harmonick balancer, they are balanced to crank, wills shake engine apart, if its like a cummins or cat balancer, its rubber mounted assy, rubber starts to detoriate, and it starts to shift, scott.

The crank could have been faulty or maybe the problem is in the other "good" 7 pistons_ sleves. All I know is I would sure try to find a good Duetz mechanic to help you. Unfortunatly you may have to go outside the world of AGCO for help. Most AGCO dealers can work on them, but I don't know any who are experts at trouble shooting. All motors are subjest to failure. The Cummins or Deere you refer to will get you back in the field faster and cheaper. Plus parts will be cheaper and service much more plentiful to help sort out those strange problems that sometimes occur. Part of owning a Duetz motor means your kind of alone on the trail.

Several posters on this board know all there is to know about Gleaners and who would steer you in the right direction if they cant help you. You can look down the list to get the email addresses of the ones that come to mind. . I know there are a couple of others that belong on this list but I cant remember their nicknames this early in the morning. Perhaps someone else can help. Hyper Harvest II tbran NDDan

Haven't had to pull a pan on one of them Deutz. We have replaced one or two piston and jug assemblies on three different machines. We did that with engine in chassis. Did you notice uneven build up of dust behind damper plate when it was being tore down. Can't say right off if vibration damper is rubber design or viscous type. I wouldn't be worried about rubber unless it wobbles. Richard will know if viscous design and it could give trouble. I would have new four spring governer kit installed as well as snubbers and gaps checked. You could of been having a high idle low load micro surge which shacks things around. Of course have the injectors rebuilt and valves set. Keep a close eye on valve settings for some machines lose clearance fairly quick which will cause unbalanced engine. I've got some tricks in the works to see if valves will keep their clearance. Good luck
