Combines Dial A Matic problems

I had the same problem on a 8820 and it turned out the bladder in the accumulator was shot, couldn't charge it, a new accumulator fixed it. Now have a 9600 and it does do some jumping in the field, the drop rate and accumulator are adjusted right, but I think the raise rate is causing it, it's too fast. It doesn't do it bad enough that I can't use it but I wonder if it kinda the same problem that you have. Does anyone know of a way to slow the raise rate of the header down someIJ

I have one on my row head, and it wanted to hunt at first. Once I opened the accumulator just 1_8th turn, it quit. I really don't like using it at all since it slows the thing down enough that at 6mph it sometimes can't keep up with terrain changes. If you try that and it still hunts, try drilling another hole just outside the arc of the old hole which connects the turnbuckle that actuates the switch (on the arm which comes from the sensors all across the head),this will effectively spread out the "dead" movement of the actuator so it won't get the whole thing bouncing which causes the problem. Remember though, this might cut the amount of stroke usable for flex. Good luck..GS

Try opening up the accumulator... the precharge could be the problem. A good way to check the precharge is to turn the valve all the way in. Raise the head all the way up, then open the valve while watching the head. If it drops when you open the valve the precharge is close.

Check to make sure that the position sensor can move through it's full range of motion. It sounds like something is sticking, which would prevent the sensor from sending the proper signal to the control. The electronics might think that the head is still on the ground.

I don't know about the 9500 but our 6620 has a switch underneath the cab with a chain on it that adjusts the height that cuts out the ADM so that it will not go back down when raised passed 18". You might check to see if yours has one and if the switch has gone bad or maybe the chain has broken.
