All of these have Bosch pumps. Earlier 2188's, probably most 95 models, have the "MandW" pump just like a 1688. That is a good pump. Our 1996 has a "P" pump and wastegate turbo. This pump can have either the RSV governor (ours does),or it can have the RQV governor, which is for trucks. I'm told the RSV is just fine and perform as well as the old "MandW", but the RQV should be avoided. It will never be very good for a combine. The trick to combine pumps is to have the governor set really hot (sensitive) and to have the aneroid backed nearly all the way out. This will let the engine deliver full fuel quickly before many RPM's are lost and the machine slows down. The torque capsule is for tractors. It allows the torque to increase dramatically as the engine is lugged. It doesn't do much good in a combine, where lugging should generally be avoided. Another critical area for the Cummins is timing. The later engines may need to have the timing bumped up a little to run their best and stay cool. As for the wastegate, you can just pinch the hose shut, like with a pair of vise grips, and bypass it completely. Just keep an eye on your coolant temp when you pull it really hard. Mike
