Combines Difference between auto header control and DAM

I also would like more info on the difference between header control and the DAM. I'm running a 6620 with header control. I was thinking that I read awhile back that the voltage from the header control would damage the circut board on the header (black box) for the DAM. Is it possible to use a servo switch from the black box to activate the header control so that the voltage is not being run through itIJ

In operation how is DAM superior to header controlIJ The 4400 parts manual shows a conversion box, switch, and wiring harnass to convert to DAM and I was wondering what advantages there are to the DAM system over header control.

The DAM offers 3 different cutting height selections as opposed to 1 preselected with the standard header control. I updated my 7720 with DAM many years ago. It was well worth the money. You can set the DAM on it's ligthest position when beans are damp then work it down heavier when they start to dry out. You could buy the components at a salvage yard.

Is the conversion electrical only or does the electric over hydraulic solenoid valve assembly have to be changed out as wellIJ If it's just a matter of a three way switch accessing the three different circuits on the sensor box mounted on the head, why can't a guy just use three different switches and wire up to the various circuitsIJ

My conversion was electrical only. The grain head I bought to use with the 7720 already had the DAM control box on it. The kit I bought from Deere included 2 relay boxes. One goes behind the dash panel and the other beside the hydraulic reservoir. The wiring harness plugged into the same soleniod valves. It probably is possible to wire up the seperate circuits, but sounds like more of a headache than it's worth. I think it would still be easier to purchase used components and then just plug it all together.
