Combines Direction of tread of combine rears

Pete, I was always told that on a two wheel drive combine the rear tires should be backwards because it will go through the mud better. A combine with RWA you would put them on the correct way. If you dont have any mud, then I dont think it will matter. Just my 2 cents. Mike

You are correct, the tire when being pulled grips the ground better in reverse and thus rolls with less resistance hopefully on top of the ground. New grain carts are coming out with tires on backwards also now. CornheadIJ Did you get your RWA for your 52IJ Thanks Gleamer

It has always been the tire company recommendation to put DRIVEN tires on the way you see them on tractors. PUllED tires are recommended to go on backward.

Gleamer, Yes I did find a RWA unit, got it from Abilene Machine. I havent made the trip to Belmond Iowa to get it yet though, as we are done with corn but I figured we should put it on this winter because these NY fall months have been really wet the past few years. Hopefully Ill make it out that way in a few weeks when we get our fall tillage done. Mike

Awesome, glad you did, we use ours all the time, even on dry gound, we had always heard if you have it to use it, helps with wear and stress on main hydo motor and makes turning quicker also. We have gone thru stuff I would rather not walk thru. Good luck to you, Gleamer
