Combines dirty fuel tank

What year is your 8820IJ Does it have a large fuel cap on it or a smaller one like the ones on a 4020IJ The large caps have a screen filter inside the filler neck. Have you checked the gasket on the fuel capIJ I had a massey combine that had the same problem and I ended up taking the tank off and having it cleaned and steamed and bought a new cap. I know this is extreme but after all the headaches I had in the field it was worth it. Can I ask where and when you bought your 8820IJ I looked at a 1986 model a couple of years ago when it was running soybeans and the same thing happened to it. The guy had left the cap off and hadn't cleaned the sediment bowl in quite a while. let me know what you find. AJTIII

Been there ,done it. Your problem more than likely, is in the sediment bowl housing. You need two people. Unscrew bowl, and fuel lines. Then unscrew the whole housing that goes into the tank. You have to have someone to put their finger in the hole when you have the housing off. Take the screen out, and use air to blow the inside of the housing out. I can be 80% sure this is your problem. At one point in time, someone left the fuel cap off, and there proably is a little peice of straw that is restricting the flow. This is a common problem. Good luck. Check the gasket on the fuel cap, it might be bad, and sucking in chaff.
