Combines dirty windows

When I first went on harvest in 2000, that's one of the first things i noticed was the amount of dust on the windows from wheat everyday. My dad has soybeans and they can get real dry and dusty too but the windows never get that dirty. He runs a grounding chain from the frame to the ground to cut down on the amount of "static" electricty that tends to make dust cling rather than fall off. It's just an old 20-50 chain but any chain would work. I know it heleps or else there is a major difference in the properties of wheat and soybean dust makes wheat dust stick and soybean dust stick less.

Yup that ole chain trick works, we run a 72 and finally decided to try the grandpa trick. Amazing what we missed from the older guys technology!!

We have always drug a chain ourselves. Just make sure that someone remembers to secure it off the ground before you head down the road. I do have to admit that on a paved road at night the shower of sparks is quite impressive! We solved this by putting our drag chain on the header so they come off together, then no one has to remember to put it up.

Hey that's a good ideal to put the chain on the head. The best window cleaner I have found is the stuff from AGCO. One maybe two times a day is all you need to clean. I have heard that Rain X works good also, but have never tried that. Ilnewholland

We too have used the cleaner from agco. Seems like its the only 'quality' item you can buy from Agco now a days.

I bought one of those dusting 'mops' some sort of magic cloth cover on the head. It telescopes and swivels. Works well for a midday quick cleaning. Of course this is after I fell and broke several ribs cleaning my windows on the second day of bean harvest. Worst harvest I ever had. Could not do much of anything for several weeks. My mop may get perfectly clean- but I am on the ground when I use it!

we use windshield washer fluid or a glass cleaner but when we clean the spray of we use old newspapers it cleans better no streaking and the dust doesn't seem to stick as bad.

I bought a cleaner several years ago by the brand name Geneva Clean. I really thought it was snake oil when the salesman tried to sell me some. It is an anti- static concentrated cleaner. I reluctantly bought some. long story short, it works great for combine windows. Dust will hardly stick to it. In fact, if we have the opportunity to park the combine inside the shed overnight and avoid the dew, we can go several days without hardly even wiping down the windows.

We have drug a length of chain for years, and I haven't seen a difference when I forget to flop the chain down. I have tried many cleaners, and anything with ammonia seems to be the best for staying clean... short of plain soap and water.
