longer flat floor behind discharge came in '86 when engine bay size increased along with dual spreader system. Trouble with longer flat floor was green material could stall eventially plugging discharge. This was agrivated when the guys wouldn't let machine clear out before cutting the throttle. A kit came out to install the discharge chain and later factory installed. We never had enough trouble without chain so never installed one. The only trouble we had with chain installed was wrapping drive sprockets in just the right conditions. We installed strippers just along side the sprockets and no more troubles. We have never removed this chain. I see no reason you can not remove and go back to original. Maybe line the floor with slipery plastic or if fabricating your own you should slope it as much as posible. Good luck
