I would think so and plus you had to have loved the cab and all the improvements 4X4 works good and field tracker while sometimes a pain is a good deal and works well you might have one problem a year with it.....but you never know.....

You need to look over the 2166 real well or get all the repairs it needs before it becomes yours. At 2200 hours it may be due to have its first major repair of wear parts like rotor bars, concaves, vanes, elephant ears, chains, elevators, augers ect. A lot will depend on how much abrasive stuff it has digested.

Well, if you're going to upgrade you might as well go bigger. I guess it comes down to how much it will cost to keep the 1420 going and how much quicker you want to get your crop out. For comparison's sake, we put 200 engine hours on our 2388 with 25' 1052 draper header to cut 1600 acres of soybeans and 300 acres of rice this year, and Katrina blew the rice down so it was slower cutting than usual. $70,000 is way too much money for a 2166 with 2200 hours. A neighbor bought a 2188 4x4 with 2000 engine hours on it for $50,000 back during the summer, and it came with a 25' 1020 header. The larger combines tend to wear the augers and elevators quicker because there is some much more grain moving throught them per hour. So definitely check all wear items. Good luck.

Sounds to me you need to look around some more From the sound of his prices.... And maybe you should try a 21 or 23 88..... And i agree the augers in the elevator should be the heavy duty one's not the normall auger its pathetic case doesn't make that standard but thats about my only complaint Also weve been rolling combines for a long time now and its pathetic how we always have the same problems almost to the same hr range...... But im sure thats the case with any combine WE do seem to have less downtime than the locall green combines and alot less than the cat's

I loved my little 1420 , until someone came by and just thought they had to have it. I got luckey and upgraded to a 1984 1440 specialty rotor with low hrs. the 2166 is a very strong machine , but the way the economy is headed i would suggest looking for an older low hr machine my 1440 will easily run 1.5 mph faster than the 1420 would.

The rice machines have heavy duty augers and everything. Any time we replace an auger or any rotor parts, we go with extended wear. Of course we keep a combine for a long time. The guys that trade every couple of years don't want to pay for the extended wear parts, so Case doesn't make them standard. A neighbor of ours kept a 9750 for two years. It had about 500 hours on it and was literally worn out from cutting rice and soybeans. It wasn't a rice model, but it should have lasted longer than that. I hear they've beefed some areas up on the 60 series. Every brand has its weak points, you just have to know what to do about them.

Hold on a minute, hoss. I never advised him to get an 88 series machine. I simply was comparing how many acres my 2388 covered in the same amount of hours. I would have compared a 2166, but I don't have one, nor do I know anybody that does. But really, a lot of smaller farmers around here run 2188s and 2388s. Heck, I only farm 1200 acres, the rest is custom work. So, if he can get a good deal on a good machine, a 66 or 88 would work. $70,000 for a 2166 with 2200 hours is too much money around here. Maybe the combine market is different elsewhere.

I gotta agree with the other sentiments here, that is just too much for that machine. Two years ago we purchased a 1989 1660 with 2000 hours AND a 25' 1010 header for -25K. The machine had all new rotor and drive belts put on it. In two seasons we have had almost no repairs, the best combine that we have ever owned. As for capacity, you would see a significant increase in the 1660.
