Combines Do you mean to tell me

I don't think the 2388 is the only machine with a similar problem. We blow out the radiator on my R72 every day too. The best thing I've done to improve the disposition of my combine operator is buying a blow gun with a 40 inch extension on it. That one simple thing lets a guy stand out of the way of the dust and chaff and turns an otherwise lousy job into no big deal.

The one thing to check is if you have a latch on both the front and the back of your compartment door. The earlier 2388's (pre 2001) only had a latch in the center and the door wouldn't seal tight on the the ends. Also make sure your brush seal is in good condition on the screen itself. They will sometimes get full of crap and harden up. Hope this helps JFarms

easy e Case changed the rotary brush on the 2300 series. Instead of the bristles pointing out (away from center like on 1400-1600 machines) they point forward (toward front of machine). This puts them running over the bolt heads and constently vibrates the bristles. Trash goes right through. They updated our machine by 1. changed screen to a smaller hole size. 2. changed the brush so it has a rubber sheet in the bristles (blocks trash from passing through.)3. The electro_hydraulic valve that turns the rotating screen on has a spool installed to run continuously. Before Case gave us the updates I reshaped the brush and riveted the clamp like the 1600 series and cured our problem. Hope this helps.

You must have big leaks where the dirt is entering. I have ran IH and C-IH axial-flows since the first year they came out. Some years I don't blow out the radiator more than once except at the start of the season and I have never had to blow one out more than twice in one year.

Just a quick tip we use when blowing. We run the engine around 1500 rpm and any dust you stir up blows right through the rad and away from your face. It also seems to clean the rad out a lot better.

Check the seal between the black plastic intake where it fastens to the top of the sheet metal above the rad. My combine sucked the seal out and plugged the rad and air cleaner in one day.

Hi Guy's Ed you mention that you are having trouble with crud in your Radiator! (this Idea might help you guy's with Case machines as well!!!) Iv got a 94 R62 with cummins 8.3 same as Case 1680_88. as the Gleaner has the rotary screen on the right with the help of a couple of other guy's over on the Gleaner site I was able to trouble shoot the problems that I was having with radiator blocking up every day!!!! Just as a side note Case guys with the rotary screen out back you can make up a chimney around the rotary screen that stick's up just above the grain box so the you are sucking clean air from some direction all the time, neiubour did this in chickpeas and had no further trouble with fires on his 1680!!! One thing I found with a lot of rotary screens is the that the little cut off plates in side the rotary screens are not very close to the screen! you need to get them as close as possible to the rotating part so as to create a dead zone for all the light chaff and straw to fall off, you also need a small boxed area around the bottom of the screen to help the dead zone, this area could be made up with rubber or some tin work, You should end up with a roster tail of chaff coming off the rotary screen out of the dead zone under the screen! you might need to adjust the lid part of the screen to get it to seal good, I had to pop rivet a piece of small RHS to the top inside of the radiator box to stop the screen lid from bowing the box and letting crud in!!!!! I pressure washed our radiator the first time this last season and it made a big difference to the cooling, just years of crud build up before I got a good seal around my rotary screen. Hope you get most of what Im talking about. Rolf
