We have a 1999 Chevy Siverado, a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500, and just got a new 2001 Ford f350. The chevy is just there for my fun but the ford and dodge are there to work. I find that the Ford has more power.

If your going for a new truck I would go with the new Chevy heavy duty trucks. The 6.6 Duramax diesel is certainly a powerful engine and more power than you will probably ever need. The new Allison 5 speed automatic transmission should last as long as the engine given there reputation.

The Chevy 6.2 is the worst diesel engine ever to be put in a pickup. Sure the economy is good but the power is certainly lacking. I have had two of these and currently own one. In the first one, a 1983 we put a starter per year in it. The 1986 that I have is a good truck but it's function is mainly just a "ranch truck". I also own two Cummins diesels, these are only 5.9 litre but they will outpull the chevy and last much longer. We have over 320,000 combined miles on these pickups and they are still going strong. So my choice would be the Cummins but the new Chevies should be very good also.

We drive Ford pickups but I have driven Dodge pickups. When hauling cattle the Ford powerstroke leaves the cummins in the dust. However, the Dodge usually gets a little better mileage.

I beg to differ with you. The old 350 GM diesel was the worst diesel motor ever put in a truck by anybody.

Okay, time to set the record straight. Cummins is OWNED by FORD.....check it out yourself if ya don't believe me. Why would Ford not put a cummins motor in thier own pick-ups then you ask IJ. Because the international navistar_powerstoke is a far superior engine as far as overall power and fuel efficiancy. And you can talk horsepower all you want, but the proof is in the torque. Cummins 4and change, Powerstroke 550foot pounds torque. Fact, not fiction. We use our Ford's to haul horses all over, my wife does that is. We ran Dodges when the new Ram with the cummins first came out, all and all not bad. Once the new Ford Super-Duty's came out we have now owned four all with the 7.3l turbo diesel......dodge doesn't come close. Even other Dodge owners will tell you after they drive the Ford that the Ram doesn't compare. As for the Chevrolet diesel, it is flat out junk. Incase you are wondering it is made by Izusu, and while the Allison automatic does have a tremendous history of strength and durability, it has been nothing but a headache in the new Chev's. That is why their release was so delayed. There really are no trucks made to compete with the Dodge Ram, or the Ford Super-Duty. As for gas engines, I am not sure who is superior, but as far as diesel goes... the 7.3l Turbo Diesel is by far the best on the road !!!.
