I don't think that a rocktrap causes much change in capacity. I put one on my 1480 and I didn't notice any change. The important thing is to get the trap geared right for what you're cutting. It has two diffrent sprockets one for crops that don't wrap(Fast) and one for the crops that do wrap (Slow). I didn't change my feederhouse I just bolted the trap on. You can find them around used or you can order a new one directly from case.

Do you have the stone retarder drum on the front end of the feeder chain that is designed to pinch rocksIJ CIH usually recommends using just the retarder if you don't have a major problem with rocks. Rock traps are not very popular with a lot of folks, so you'll probably have no problem finding one.

Depends on the crop. In our area we do barley a little wet and I was having trouble with the green straw knocking out the left beater bearing on the trap, so I pulled the trap out. In those green straw conditions I think I increased capacity by 25%. Same would probably hold true in green stem beans. Dry beans and corn youll hardly know its there. If you choose to put a trap in, be aware that the drive chain runs under a haevy load, it needs lots of lube!

if you put in a rock trap make sure that you install a finger bar. this will help with feeding.( @ least in our area )

As to capacity I really don't know but I know that in our rocky ground I would never run without one. Once and a while a little rock about 3" in diamater will sneak past the drum, hits the retarder and in the trap. I'd rather give up a little capacity for the added security as too gaining 25% more capacity and damage something. If you damage the rotor, what have you gainedIJ NOTHING! JMO Brad NC. IN.

As one who never thought that a rock trap would be necessary, let me tell you, i will never go without one again after getting a machine with one on it. We have some rocks in our fields, but small compared to some areas. After the first few times of dumping the trap and seeing some of the stones that it caught has made a believer out of me. As far as capacity, we run a 2388 and 8 row corn head, and can do about 2600 bu_hour at max. In soybeans it is about 900 bu_hour with a 25ft head. So I can hardly tell that the trap is a hinderance. Even if it was, it would be so minor compared to swallowing damaging hazards

I've got one on a 1688 that I don't need, since we don't have many rocks. If interested call me at 618-483-5793.(central Il)

like metioned in other posts, I would not run a machine in my area with out a rock trap. I have seen the damage a rock will do to a rotor or a conventional machine and it is not much of a performance issue to have one. Rock traps are money well spent.
