Bob, be thankfull that your dad still comes to the feild from time to time. I lost my dad 5yrs. ago and I still look to the end of a field sometimes for the blue S10 there to make sure that Im doing it right.

Down time is not so much color of machine as it is pre season maintance. If you do good off season maintance on your combine no matter what color it will do you good. New stuff breaks down too shnt happens as they say.

I run a 1982 n-7 gleaner for my brothers farm, this fall it went over 4700 sep. hours, and after combining approx. 1800 acres of small grains,(this fall) I figure I was down for about 4 hrs total as i broke the double belt set on the n-7. He does go through the machine completely in the winter, and past years i've had more downtime than this, but it seems that the gleaners get better with age. By the way, the old n7 has been "dyno-ed" at 320 hp, will outdo our 86 r7 in most condition. I've been told by gleaner repair man that most older n7's were putting out on the dyno betwwen 300-350 hp. So I myself wonder, why does gleaner have a bad nameIJ
