Backing the rear wheels of your combine onto a two-wheeled "car-caddy" and towing it backwards would work well, if you can find one with a long enough reach and adequate strength. As a teenager, I worked for a small White dealership who didn't have a float large enough to load a combine. We hauled disabled machines this way as far as 20 to 25 miles. A slow process, but it got the job done!

I eyeballed the operator's manual on the dimension page. The back end hangs out 5 feet over the rear axle give or take. That includes the chopper.

Too bad you cant take the head off and haul it seperately, would make things alot easier if it broke down. make sure u have brakes! the 4400's arent that great to start w_.. With the header off I would think their would be someplace you could hook a chain too and pull it w_ your truck, but then again u need good brakes on the 4400 for that. I would say a trailer would be the next easiest way.. Good luck on the move! Joe

Just how scared are you of something happeningIJ If the thing runs good and the tires don't look they are going to blow I'd just treat it like a regular move. Have the flashers going, maybe even add a few more lights. Have a truck behind you with its flashers going and maybe even one in front of you.

Thanks for the input jp. This poor beast hasn't seen a road since 1993 so I am a little concerned about reliability. The route has been mapped out. I will leave the grain table on for an "emergency brake". In 1993 this 4 mile route was mainly country. It is now pretty much developed with the exception of a couple of fields. If it breaks down, it will be a museum piece on a busy Indy street. I will have plenty of help when I move it.
