I have a friend that has a MacDon 972 (they just came out with it last year),and he does a great job. I believe he might actually do a better job in short, thin beans on flat ground. He leaves a little on the terraces, but not enough to really count. E-Mail me @ pjronck@kskc.net if you would like his phone n to talk to him about it.

Depends on how many beans you want to get. In perfectly flat ground they work fair but no where near a flexhead. If you get in the hills or crossing ditchs you'll be really disappointed. Currently the only draper head that does an acceptable job is a MacDon 972 with whats called a C-shaped cutterbar which puts it closer to the ground but here again it's a flat land machine. Be patient, there will be a flex draper head on the market within the next 2-3 years.

Don't even attempt it in a very short or spindly crop. I've had a 36'macdon parked most of the summer while my other conventional front has been going nonstop in mungbeans. crop builds up in between the knife and the front of the centre feed belt and you end up bulldozing a strip about 3 feet wide. Yield loss is unbelievable.
