Sund pickups and perforated header bottoms are nice to reduce dirt intake. Feeder shocks are a must for any crop. Hump installed on rock door is nice. Feed chains can sometimes be run on slow to improve feed to cylinder. Remove concave filler bars. I find running close concave to cylinder clearance is better than wide for the cylinder will suck straw in and get it moving better. All forward extended wide rasp cylinder bars. Helical bars MUST be chrome and stand at least 1_2" high. Third helical from gearbox should be extended over feeder opening corner. I like covering seperator grate with cage type material to help prevent straw from rolling up. Front accelerator roll paddles may need to be removed if beans are very dry and splitable. You should have enough clearance under clean grain auger so bean will not pinch between flighting and trough. Popcorn augers are available to help give you the clearance you need but usually we will raise the auger on discharge side by removing bearing and flanges and then refasten with auger lifted up off the floor about 7_16". We slow up elevators by approx. 20% by installing a 12.4" taperlock pulley on elevator jackshaft and then use a 100" double B powerband belt in place of the present one. On '94 or newer machines some washers will need to be used to make up some clearance on jackshaft and champher cut into taperlock hub to straddle radius on shaft. On '93 or newer machine you could get the clean grain slip clutch pulley for a '92 machine for it will slow up clean grain another 10%. With elevators slowed up and spreader on slow you may have trouble keeping spreader light out even if module has a tweaker screw so we install a 10 leg sensing collor on spreader shaft in place of the 6 leg. 10 leg lock collars can be found on spreader shafts of older machines with dual spreader. We extend auger flighting in bottom of hopper to get it to within about a 1_2" of bushing support for this reduces dead area where ujoint is and we slide down tins to slow up unloading volume. We also unload down toward idle speed. Most of these special things do not have to be undone for other crops and not everything has to be done but it all will help. My opinion is that these machines work as good as any other all purpose combine in edible beans and most of the time as good as specialty bean combines. Be aware that edible bean dirt will wear combine thereabouts twice as fast as most crops. These tips noted here are for R62 and R72 but many can be carried over to other Gleaner rotaries.
