I mounted shocks as close as possible to 90 degrees from feed floor angle. Shock manufature said shocks shouldn't very more than 30 degrees from straight up and down. I think we are definitely pushing that 30 degrees but it is working out fine. I believe some have adapted shock kit that Gleaner has to fit these older machines and they could be run closer to 90 degrees for they are shorter. Main thing with shocks is to be sure you have them mounted such that stroke of shock is not limiting up and down movement whether drum has self tentioned all the way forward or half links were just removed so drum is rearward. You can use pry bar to lift drum and see that stops are hitting top pads. You can check for rear feed strippers by looking at chain drive sprockets and there should be brackets just ahead of sprockets and just clearing bottom run of chain sections. Also looking back at sprockets from under machine see if there is something fastened to top right corner of opening into cylinder for that is where helical filler may be and you may see it has been caught by feed chain slats if chain was tring to jump a cog.
