Combines electric header control swap

Cornman, The header itself is easily changed, you just add a potentiometer on the end off the control rod that works the cable. The combine is another story as all those control valves are stacked and the electric are a different pattern then the manual. You may have an option of installing a solenoid valve from another application but would suggest getting some one with experience so that the electrical components will match up. Now all of that being said, I was thinking of changing my manual 1460 over to electric as well and had located all the parts until I spoke with Young's in Illinois who rebuild and remake the 820 heads. He convinced me that the cable control is quicker and more responsive if kept in good condition..I have taken his advice and been very pleased, after comparing an electric machine...Steve

Yes you can have the header valve electric and the others manual. I have used my 1460 this way for several years, works great.

I used the header lift valve from a Gleaner l or M. I have my combine in the shop working on it so I will look at it and refresh my memory. If I remember correctly I used the port plate and electric lift valve (gleaner). The priority port on the port plate sends oil to the other IH valve that raises the reel and swings the auger. Now I had to install an adjustable flow divider, oil from control port goes to a simple relief valve for the power steering, the secondary port sends its oil to the gleaner port plate and electric header lift valve. It bolts in the same location as the old IH valves and end plates. It looks professionally done. I also used the latching relay and wiring harness from the Gleaner to make the header height control work. I use a John Deere 224 Grain header so I tell people it takes Gleaner controls to make an IH get along with a JD or vice verses. You have to see to appreciate. I got the hydro lever with the rocker switch out of a newer 1460 and it bolts in place of old lever. Very happy with this setup.
