You can purchase these also from Mr. Gorden The factory ones seem to wear out pretty quick and you dont know it untill you get in there and check. On my 98 model 2388 I changed the original ones out around 800 hours I think I bought a new set from Marvin and have put around the same amount of time on them so far I will check them out in a month or so when I start prepping equipment. The way I changed mine was by pulling the feeder house off as I had to so I could replace the cone vanes, you may be able to change them without removing it if you have lots of patience and are willing to work with minimal space. Marvins price is better then a dealers and comes with the hardware included I would reccomend getting a set from him, you deffinatly should check them because I had a 1440 I basically used only for pinto beans and the extensions were so worn out that it wore into the elephant ear and wore it out also so the repair bill jumped up around the 600 dollar mark to replace all of it when it only should of been 150-200 max, well good luck to you and remember to check them every year

Don't do it. Try to find a used two ear hub from a 2388 for about $350 bucks. It is not uncommon for a 4-ear hub to come apart when just running two ears. The two ear hub is much beefier.

I have a 1680,I took off the two ears, I have notice that it feeds into the rotor alot better. I run wheat,soybeans,corn.

we have been running with the marlin impeller blades for six years and just about every farmer around us. this includes 1460 to 2388,s no one has ever broken a hub or had anything bad to say about the marlin impeller blades.the comments are they are a lot better in tough conditions easier on fuel and parts because combine runs so much smoother quieter and more speed.

Two is better than four. I am The Disrupter guy and have been rebuilding ears, inserts, concaves, keystock grates, rotor bars and many other ware parts in combines for over 25 years. What is the theory behind removing 2 ears, why does it work better with 2IJ Just wondering.

The mechanic who has set up our 2188's has worked with case combines for many years.In the 14 series combines he discovered years ago that cutting two of the four elephant ears off will help in the feeding of product into the rotor. Also, he has patented a modified ear for the rotor. It's called Marlins Impeller Blades and are available through loewen manufacturing. I makes a bigger difference in some crops over others but you will only increase capacity and will not give up threshing or cleaning ability.

We were told that with cutting 2 of the ears off it allowed more flow from the feeder house to the rotor. One spanner boy here said with 4 ears when the straw gets to the elephant ears its like a wall of steel that the feeder chain is trying to push straw into. So we got in there with the cutting torch shes only got 2 now! Here we go................
