- Olymel has reached a new labour contract with employees of the Olymel poultry slaughterhouse and cutting plant at St-Damase in the Montérégie. The new 8-year agreement will expire on August 31, 2019. The previous labour contract had expired on August 31. The employees at the facility, who are affiliated with Local 1991-P of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW),endorsed the agreement between their union representatives and Olymel management at a general meeting held on December 13 with 59% in favour. The new collective agreement was officially signed by both parties on December 20.

Olymel l.p. greeted the vote by employees at the St. Damase facility with satisfaction. ?The negotiations were conducted in a calm atmosphere, which enabled us to agree on all items in the new agreement. During our discussions with union representatives, we were able to reconcile our employees? interests with the need to establish the conditions of stability and productivity that are essential to remaining a competitive player in the poultry industry in Québec, and thereby ensure that jobs there could be maintained in the long term,? noted Louis Banville, Vice President, Human Resources at Olymel l.p.
