Sounds like the dipstick wasn't all the way in had it happen on a 62 makes quite a mess

Heard of this dipstick thing quite a few times. Don't know if they weren't installed all the way or if there isn't enough friction to hold them in at times. I think some guys have installed a clip or strap of some type to be sure it don't pop out again. I doubt your oil loss caused anything other than a mess. Good luck

May want to check to crankcase breather tube to be sure it isn't plugged. The 3306 engine on my D6 was blowing oil out the dipstick but not venting through the blowby tube. Cleaned the blowby screen and tube and solved problem. Just a thought.
