Combines Engine swapIJ

It has been done with alot of pain in the N5 and N6s. Many sheave changes with rerouting of lots of hydraulics and cooling system. As for the 8070 the 516 is a much larger block than the 426 and without major changes to the frame, etc. it won't go easily if at all. The Cummins is a much better choice for the engine swap in either unit.

The Cummins C_505cid will fit nicely in the N Gleaners and the 8030-8070 Allis'.

I havn't but many have installed N7 power unit from PTO sheave to radiator in N6's or R6's. Don't know about N5's for there was never any around hear (rear axle may be lighter ect.). I had a hard time finding a complete N7 power unit a couple years ago for a guy who wanted to up the output of his R6. I priced some Cummins convertions but get the guy to spend the bucks on this older machine. I ended up just repowering with good N6 engine for it wasn't as hard to find them for a good price. I think you could run into a heck of a struggle installing N7 engine in a tractor. I don't think you'll find much other than a few bolts that will fit both a 516 and 426. Only problem I've had with 516 used in N7 and R7's is the flanged bolts or flat washers on bolts right between the two heads. If the washer breaks in half or corner of flanged bolt comes off and remains undetected the head gasket will fail. On another subject did you ever get the flutter out of your 8000 series with AmBacIJ

The reason I was asking about an engine swap is because a nearby salvage yard sold out last Saturday and they had one. The complete engine, less pto, sold for $400 and was a running engine. That is alot less than a Cummins.A new Cummins conversion was priced for more than I payed for any of my 8000 series tractors and more than my N5 is worth.I can still get the engine if needed.I just got my pump back today from a different shop and they did find some things. If it works I will e-mail you with what they did. Thanks David

No it was above 2000 rpms.Does not do it all the time.Never under no load or heavy load only with light load at a steady speed and it takes a minute to start acting up and then it sounds like a machine gun.
