Combines engines in NH

7.5l New Holland Genesis engine used in smaller CR 920_940. Iveco, an Italian engine company owned by CNH, has a 7.8l and a 10.3l if I remember correctly that are used in the CR 960_970. May be a bit early in the season for feedback on engine performance. The Case AFX uses the same Iveco powerplants in their respective models to the CR.

alright if they are using the italian engines in the big combines are they using them in the tractors as well, and are they pretty advanced, ie electronic, or mechanically goverenedIJ that sort of thingIJIJ im slightly familiar with the challenger engines in the wheel tractors which are a Sisu, in the large frames and they are not very advanced at all! just wondering haven't herad much bout the new enginesIJ

The Iveco engines can be good; can also be bad. NH used them in the FX forage harvesters initially. They suffered from poor parts availability (no surprise there) and soft crankshafts and camshafts which would catastrophically fail. The engines in the combines are different. They are electronically controlled engines, both in governing and in timing. Don't think they're in the tractors. Big tractors use the Cummins_CDC, while smaller ones use the NH engines. I have been around the Sisu engines in the big MF tractors and have been extremely impressed with them. A CDC, Cummins, NH, and Deere has nothing on the Sisu. The Sisu is far more fuel efficient, and has more torque than anything CNH or Deere has. In the European scene, the Sisu is perceived to be the 'Caterpillar' of engines, and I would take it over any other engine used in a wheel tractor.

wow glad to hear you had such good luck with the Sisu engines, i guess i didn't mean to put the engines down, they just seem a little old. everything is hard to get at, like the valve cover, on the MT challenger i looked at i don't know how you get at the dang thing! the engine itself does run good and sounds good, lots of power, and good on fuel. just some things i noticed as far as service.

Have been informed by a friend that the new little Case tractors use a small Iveco engine, the JX series I think.

Iveco actually sell a full line up of heavy trucks here in Europe.Their new model called "Stralis" won the European truck of the year competition in 2002 and its engine partiularly came in for high praise from the judges. The trucks and the Iveco engines are well respected by the large trucking firms over here.

I have a cr 940 with the Genesus engine and it is doing just fine for horsepower the only thing that we have had problems with is the idler pully for the belt on the a_c and alt. and so forth other wise tha is the only thing that we have did to the combine in the first 100 hrs.
