Combines F2 Clean grain elevator removal

First thing, remove the elevator chain. Next, does your friend have a short elevator or an "over the bin" elevator that extents higher with or without grain bin extensionsIJ If it is the short elevator, then the top elevator chain shaft and its bearings will need to be removed from the elevator housing. Make sure the grain bin cross auger drive chain is removed from this shaft before doing so. If the bottom of elevator housing has been loosened from the elevator clean grain cross auger tube housing, then the elevator housing will then slide out the bottom of the grain tank with some wiggling. The cylinder for the clean grain bin auger that you mentioned is built into the grain tank sheet metal and stays with the grain tank. If you have the longer, higher elevator housing it is more complicated. The clean grain bin cross auger and its bearings will need to be removed. Then, the upper elevator housing is riveted to the cross auger cylinder housing and flat sheet metal which may or may not be the grain bin extension side of the grain tank. If you have a grain bin extension, then this flat sheet metal will be one piece that is the length of the grain tank {from near engine to cab}. The rear part of this flat sheet metal (nearest the engine) may be bolted to the back side of the elevator housing, unbolt it and leave it on the machine. At any rate, unbolt this flat sheet metal grain bin extension from the grain tank. Again, if your lower elevator housing is loose, you must slide out the top portions of flat sheet metal that is riveted to the elevator housing and the elevator housing upwards making sure that your lower elevator housing has its clean grain boot removed (cut the boot rivets with a chisel). If you do not have grain bin extensions, then this flat sheet metal will be much shorter and your grain bin clean grain cross auger will have a front sheild that covers the auger. If that is your case, remove this shield. Then proceed with similar process of upward remove of elevator housing. I have converted several short elevator combines to longer elevator ones with or without grain bin extensions. Its a two man job to remove or install the longer elevators because they need to slide out or slide in from the top of the grain tank. Gleaner made an elevator extension kit to lengthen your existing short elevator. This kit added about 2-3' of elevator housing near the clean grain cross auger boot, thus sliding the old housing upward. The kit also included the top sheet metal housing for the cross auger cylinder (auger flighting tube) which was then riveted to the old elevator housing allowing for the grain tank cross auger to be raised with the elevator housing. It also provided covers that were bolted to the old holes left below in the grain tank housing.

Excellent instructions. He has the extended bin and elevator. He is very concerned about the process. Your instructions should relieve his stress. I will check back with you if he has other problems with this project. He is not computer literate. I will have to thank you for him. 'preciate it, buddy. Steve

Your friend might want to buy a parts book from your local Gleaner dealer or you could buy one on ebay for about $10 if ones comes along for sale. The parts book is about 1" thick or more and shows all elevator versions in detail not to mention rest of the combine's parts.
