THE n 1 CAUSE of leakage is a bent spindle. Part n 71186854 . Run the combine and look at the fitting on the end, there should be NO wobble at all. Movement here indicates a bent spindle. The seal goes in lips first against the spring. The inner sealing area should fit tight on the spindle. Then the cupped washer or metal seal back up goes in lip out so as to cover the snap ring and provide a flat surface for the seal to ride against as the spring forces it out. Then the snap ring, the bearing , the spacer, outer bearing, snap ring, and of course the spindle rides on the big housing that screws off. The 90 degree fitting has to be removed to get the spindle to slide out. I have seen a few spindles where there were grooves that cut the seal, if so polish them out. I have seen where the spindle was worn so the seal seeps under no load but does not leak under pressure. I this case place a shim washer between the seal and the cupped metal washer it butts against thus moving the seal into the housing just the width of the wear area. Hope this helps. Same thing holds true to VS corn head drives.

Thanks Tbran. Much appreciated. I'm sure "Sidekick" feels the same way.

sorry , none I know of. however , from memory and I am sure others can add, the combine had either std or hd feeder beater, the corn soybean version had 5_8 fingers and steel retainers, cylinder options were std, wide spaced hardsurfaced cyl bars, chrome bars or spikes, walker risers and walker screens (CS std again) HD cylinders for lift, hyd swing unloader w_binextentions or manual with or w_o over bin loader and unloader retarders, roller chain in lieu of detach link in elevators, Chopper and corn kit or spreader, std 18.4 or 23.1 or 28.1 X26 R1 or R2 tires and 7.50 - 9.00 10.00 or 11l X 16 rear tires or 7.5 X20's or the heavy cast iron wheels. Rear wts, and hillside airflow grain savers were in the book. 292 GM Gas or AC Diesel 2800 in 77 and 4.33 I 4 cyliner 78 and up's. Block heater, two 6V or 2 12V HD starting system with either option. 83.5 F2's and all F3's had electric over hyd systems. And of course std or hydro drive and RWA options on late SN's hydros. Std chaffer, round end or sq end corn chaffers or inverted chaffers and different screens in lieu of sieve asfield installed. tracks were optional as was a small seed kit. Don't foget the AC _ heater options as well as radio and wiper std, delux or comfort seats. Auto header height control and variable speed corn head. Mud shields and milo screens. later versions had slip clutches for walkers and separator beaters. Optional light kits as well. Tattletale I II III and IV, Pacers, hourmeters, acre estimators, electric header clutch option, asp precleaner and toot toot horn - and thats all I know about that.

pull off top of pump via 3 screws after removing linkage and top fitting and wires. inside there is a j clip that holds the 2 piece throttle shaft, carefully remove the j clip - it can go flying into the wild blue yonder - and slide out the throttle shaft then replace the oring on the shaft and reinstall. It will be close - sometime the overtravel linkage has to be removed.

kind of tuff to answer but I will ask some q's . IF you stop does the oil come bck upIJ There was a kit to tie the rear reservoir to the front as a field campaign. Yours get doneIJ Unless there is a leak , its gotta be somewhere. As to the engine, suspect fuel restriction. Check tank strainer in bottom of tank, sediment bowl and a screen, blow back through lines from filter to tank, change filters and check to see if hand pump is working - a plugged check valve will restrict flow. IF the unit slows and dies it will be the valve stopped up in the pump top return fitting. Remove the drip line to the injs and unscrew fittings being careful not to damage wires on pump top. Remove the fitting , place in vice and pop out the tear drop shaped washer and remove ball and spring. This is in the pump for unit that have pump higher than tank and or inverted 90 degrees as in 4020 deeres. A plugged valve will back up pressure and render delivery valve in open position.
