If the electrical hydraulic controls are what you are worried about then don't worry. The two main problems you will have is a switch going bad or a coil going bad and are easy to trouble shoot. The switches will go bad after a lot of use and all you need is a screwdriver to change. Other than the cost and hydraulic controls there is not much difference between a late F2 and a F3.

I have a 1983 F3 with 1100 hours, nothing has went wrong with the electrics, Nothing! One of the best 4 row machines made. Resale is strong on the F3. The Hydro is excellent.

I have both F2 and F3 combines I like both of them very good 4 row machines if you can get an F3 get it, don't be afarid of it. The only machines that don't break down are the machines that sit in the shed. I have had some things go wrong with both machines they are over twenty years old but are great when they are working. current owner of 1983 f3, have had very good luck with the electical controls and have never had any problems yet, the hydro is very dependable. the F3 is a very good machine and when equipped right(wide spaced bars) can compete with machines that are rated a little larger.
