Did your chain break and what crop are you running inIJ There might be a simple solution!

Yes, this has been a common problem for us. The chain is too long and runs too fast. They redesigned it for the later R52's. I have seen many different types of fixes. We finally stopped the problem after loosing two shafts. We put a self-aligning bearing on the fan shaft, outside of the double sprockets. This bearing is held in place by two pieces of 1_4 iron that are bolted to the combine frame. We also added a piece to the top of the tightner block so that the chain can't jump off the block. The chain always ran off for us when we were turning around, usually in corn stalks. Good luck.

We have somewhat solved the breakage problem which occurs only in corn as corn cobs are thrown into the chain and it runs it off and this snaps the fan shaft and soemtimes the clean grain auger as well. This was on the early R50-52's. I think in the hypermods it gives a picture of a spring loaded idler installed from a M2-l2 and lENGTHEN the chain so as to allow it to pass a cob or allow it to jump off without breaking the shaft. Shielding the area from cobs is also helpful.

Picking corn and the chain didn't break. Think tbran is right about a cob getting in there and I forgot about that being one of the mods. By the way - I'm having too much cylinder loss and I don't feel this should be a problem in corn, even w_a stock setup. Cylinder @ 350 and adjusted to .75" clearance. Have narrow spaced bars w_no mods. Bars and cage are new. What can I do to clean that upIJ

Start by removing every other wire from both concaves. That made the biggest difference of any mods for us in corn. Good luck! Tom PS: I believe there is a pic of the spring-loaded clean grain drive somewhere on the Hyper Mod site. Click the button there on the left to access.
