We did that exact same thing on our 815. Works fine. Didn't disconnect anything when we welded, but maybe it was just dumb luckIJ! Tom langan

Put an isolator switch into the main battery leads close to the batteries. Or use those battery terminal twist type switches to isolate and kill the electrical circuit to prevent problems with the electronics while welding and etc.. Usually the feather sheets pop out because the bushes in the parallel arms are shot, allowing the whole knife bar to flop around. Usually undoing the skid plate to knife bar bolts and the skid plate parallel arm holding bolts under the feather sheets, then pushing the whole knife bar hard back while the various bolts are retightened will stop the feather sheets popping out. This plus a little tweaking of the adjusting bolts on the support arms under the header will fix most of the problems. Cheers!

Check to make sure the parallel arms are the same length and the ball joints are good. Otherwise the sickle bar will move up and down in an arc. Also, the piece of flat steel that holds the front of the feather sheet down was originally 2.5 inches wide. I used a piece of 3.25 inches by 1_8 flat instead ( like the new 8000 series head) to help hold the feather sheet in. The new Agco steel is bent slightly at the back; I used a disc grinder to bevel the flat steel where it meets the feather sheet. Solved my problem.
