Combines Feeder House Chains 1660

If it is bunch feeding you will need the drum lowered not all the way up like corn. Check that the feeder chain is installed in the correct directon. It is possible to install a feeder chain backwards and it does effect feeding when conditions are damp_wet. If you need more aggressive feeding change every other slat to a serrated one from the smooth.

redhat. Can you pls. explaim what you mean by installing a feederchaim in the correct direction. What is the correct way IJI have a 1680, is there also an issue reg. direction on the feederchain. Thanks...

When you look at the feeder chain facing the front of the combine the chain links with the "ears" on them that the slats bolt to have to lead the slat. OR the tapered edge of the ear has to be under the slat when you look at the feeder drum not above it. Also the higher side of the slat has to lead the lower side of the slat. Hope you understand, it is kind of difficult to explain.

We have looked the feeder house chain over and do not think its that because with the 1010 grain table on it feeds fine just issues with the row head. The Sorghum will bunch up right behind the auger fingers and acts like it is not being pulled in by the feeder house chain.... We have tried extending the auger flighting, fadjusting the finger position, and we were wondering if the platform drive is variable speed if the head needs to be running faster to throw the material up onto the chainIJIJIJ Any Help Appreciated thanks for the previous postings!

Row headIJ You must have an adaptor on it to make head fit combineIJ If so header will be farther away from the feeder due to adapter plateIJ You might have to move front feeder drum forward(extend chain length) to have feeder chain closer to header auger and improve feeding. You can only go as far as the feeder face plate will allow without the slats hitting the back side of the feeder faceplate. This is also effected by the faceplate angle adjustment.

do you have a stone drum or smooth drumIJ Stone drums don't feed worth a dam in certain conditions. I fought all the same trouble you are having and I switched to a smooth drum and bingo problem solved.

You will need to put a rubber flap on the grain table auger just like the cornheads have. Some people just weld a steel plate on. I had the same problem you are having and the flap took care of it.

That sounds logical because we do have an adapror plate that we have which puts a bigger distance between the auger and the chainIJ Would you be able to shed some light on how to lengthen the chain and move the front drum closer to the row headIJ

The only way is to add half links to the feeder chain and readjust the tension and feeder face so you have enough clearance that slats don't hit the feeder face plate.
