Is there any chance one of the bearings is worn enough to be wobblingIJ May have to use a bar to detect any movement.

RW, Sounds like the idler pulley is out of alignment. The bolthead that holds the pulley on is thicker on one side than the other (notice a triangle on the head). By turning this the pulley's running angle will change. Also check your bushings in the pulley arm and some models had adjustment where the arm pin mounts on the throat. I have also seen the top pulley work off the hex shaft. I once changed the spring tightner hook (pulley arm)to the other side of the bracket to help against side loading the pulley tightner arm. If it is a alignment problem remember to run it both directions when aligning. Good luck

I have a 1680 that I had a similar problem with. What happened to me was the bottom triple pulley on the cross shaft that goes under the feeder broke. Just the outside shieve broke, the one to the right. It broke out of the rivits. I cut the outside shieve away so I could continue untill I was able to get a new pulley. I was confused as to why the shieve broke in the first place. When I went to repair it I looked at it a little closer as to how the pulley was mounted on the shaft. To my suprise the pulley was on the shaft backwards from the factory. Thus causing the pulley to flex. After to much flexing the outter shieve broke away from the hub. This may be your problem your pulley may be on backwards and is flexing causing the belt to jump over. You want the meat of the hub of the pulley on shaft end not beside the bearing. This will take away any pulley flex.
