Combines Feeder Reverser

I have done this on my N6. Used a starter of a 1466 IH tractor. Best thing I have ever made, esp in windrowed canola and lupins. If I could get access to a digi cam I will post photos to site. The big issue is getting the correct rotation.

I put aheader reverser on my M2. Start by making a cardboard pattern to see where you canget 1_2" bolts to hold 1_2" plate to side of combine (cut out to miss cyl. height guage etc.) To this plate I welded a 3" pipe ends squared in lathe approx. 101_2" long (braced 3 ways ) to allow another 1.2" plate welded to other end to get out past header drive pulleyandring gear. This lenght depends on starterandring gear used to clear header drive pulley.Use as big a ring as you can find with teeth to fit starter. Ringgear is bolted to a 1_4" plate hub fastened to shaft with the bolts that hold the splined trumpet header drive shaft. May have tomake a spacer to move r. g. away from pulley.Another 1_2"plate bored to a tight fit for starter is bolted to pipe end plate (slotted holes and shims to align starter with ring gear).I used a Ford corbra race car engine starter. It has a short nose to clear header drive pulley.IT is available beefed up for this job from Kitt,s Auto Electric 5Woods ST. Chatham Ontario Canada N7l 3P9 519 351 6479 . Useheavy welding cable from battery to starter.Momentary contact switch in cab.Add a guard to protect wheel mud.Allow head to stop befor reversing. Use only seconds at atime to prevent starter over heating.

on top of the starter you will find a solonoid this is where the click noise comes from take the starter in to a auto eletrical shop and have them test it you will probably find just the solonoid is given up on you and not allowing the starter to engage and spin good luck get tehm to check the brushes and bearing well you have it out

THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBlEM. OURS MANAGED TO REVERSE A SlUG TWICE ON A BRAND NEW STARTER MOTOR, IT QUIT AND IS STIll BROKEN. JUS PART OF THE JOY IF IHC.!!!
