It may just need adjusting on the cable to get some free-play, or adjust where the shifter goes into the reverser case. The repair book has a procedure for this.

check the spring under the f_h, if not broke, the adjustment may just be off. There is no reason just would have just started. Corn heads work harder than bean heads, it has to be something simple, when reversers go they go big time,,,,,not the way you say...........good luck....

It was out of adjustment. Took chain link off, loosened jam nuts, pushed fork all the way in, retightened jam nuts, when jam nuts touch tighten one full turn. End of problems,thank goodness!
